To a passer-by looking at this Swan 54 yacht in the cradle, you might see a beautiful, blue water cruiser. You might even know it was designed by German Frers and built by a team of skilled craftsman at Nautor’s Swan workshop in Finland.
But what you wouldn’t know is that the owners of this yacht were childhood sweethearts, reunited following a 50 year separation. He’d always dreamed of owning a Swan. She’d never sailed. They selected the Swan 54 to represent the start of their future adventures together.
You wouldn’t know that Julian, from Vortec Marine, the UK’s only authorised Nautor’s Swan service partner, flew to Finland in June on the owner’s behalf, to inspect the beautiful new Swan yacht with several customised additions. In July, another team from Vortec flew again to Nautor’s Swan base in Finland to accept and deliver the yacht to her new home in Chichester Marina.
You may know that Vortec Marine are market leaders in Oyster and Swan yacht servicing and maintenance, but you may not know that Vortec also offer shoreside and own boat sailing tuition from highly experienced skippers.
Over the summer, Vortec Marine have continued to support SorayAnnis, arranging day sails for the new owners, familiarising them with their new yacht and completing the five-day RYA Competent Crew course on board, so that they feel comfortable on board their stunning Swan.
Today, Vortec lifted SorayAnnis in Port Solent where she will be winterised by the maintenance team. In case you don’t already know, winterisation is the process of preparing the yacht and engine for a long, cold period without use. This includes removing and storing the sails, running rigging and deck canvas, inspecting the hull and repairing any damage, servicing the engine, replacing various filters and adding a pickling agent into the water maker to prevent bacterial growth. Heaters and de-humidifiers will run onboard throughout the winter to stop the interior becoming damp and mouldy, and Vortec will also complete some owner requested modifications to the galley stowage and install additional AV equipment.
In March next year, Vortec will re-commission the yacht and provide a skipper to support the owners as they continue their sailing adventures.
So when you look at this Swan 54 in the cradle – you can now see that for Vortec, it’s more than just a yacht, it’s a personal story of support, ambition and dreams.
