The Swan 54 is a truly bluewater fast cruiser comfortableand seaworthy in rough conditions, with easy to handle sail plan and solid and reliable construction. General Scantlings, materials and workmanship throughout are consistent with the construction of a light hull, but without any sacrifice of strength or stiffness. Hull Laminate Foam cored sandwich glass fibre reinforced vinylester laminate for the topsides and a single skin glass fibre reinforced vinylester laminate under the waterline. Stiffening – All stiffeners are unidirectional glass layups. Stringers and web frames are pre-made hollow sections that allow them to be used for ventilation purposes or as cable conduits. Engine bed is of GRP with steel inserts. Special care is taken to assure rigid foundation and proper adhesion to hull. Structural bulkheads are marine plywood with GRP reinforcements. They are laminated to hull and deck. The stainless steel main shroud chain plates are bonded to the hull. Hull Finish Gelcoats are of weather-resistant NGA type. Hull colour to be standard white NGA 9650. Hull stripes to be standard dark blue NGA 7344. Bottom treatment with four layers of Gelshield epoxy primer and two layers of antifouling. Antifouling colour to be dark blue. Keel -The keel is a lead casting with antimony and carefully finished to accurate shape. Cast-in keel bolts are of high-tensile stainless steel. Steering System – Carbon fibre steering wheels with five single spokes, 1000 mm, instead of standard. The rudder is of foam filled GRP with tapered hi-tensile stainless steel stock, supported by two self-aligning bearings. Weed deflector in front of rudder.
