Swan 115-004; Odin
Delivered in August 2018, Odin is the fourth Swan 115 and one of the most technologically advanced yachts ever conceived. Optimized for competitive racing at the highest level, every detail has been studied by world-class engineers and boat builders to ensure excellent performance and ease of boat handing.
The layup is of a foam cored carbon fibre epoxy reinforced construction in a female mold.
The hull is pre-preg carbon fibre foam sandwich. The laminate is vacuum consolidated, and oven cured at + 70C. The core is M-Grade Corecell SAN Foam with high density used in the high loaded areas. A high proportion of the fibres are unidirectional resulting in a stiff structure. The stiffeners and structural bulkheads are made using Carbon SE70 Pre-preg and Nomex, vacuum consolidated at +70C. Hull and deck laminate optimization and improved global stiffness using intermediate unidirectional fibres in selected areas.
Lifting keel supplied by APM srl. The keel system is attached to the hull through a carbon fibre keel trunk. The keel fin is made of welded and milled high strength steel fin. The bulb is lead casting with 4,5% antimony and is attached to the keel fin with AISI 329 bolts. The lifting mechanism is through hydraulic cylinders. The fin is fabricated and faired to a tolerance of 0 / +3 mm.
Lifting keel optimization:
– Stroke 4.5 m – 6.75 (standard is 4.5 m – 6.5 m) – Keel trunk laminate and core optimization – Chord length 1.738 m (standard is 2.073 m) – Weldox 900 material (standard is Weldox 700) – Titanium bottom plate and tapping bars (standard is stainless steel) – Titanium bearings and side wedges (standard is stainless steel).
Custom steering system design. Steering system preliminary geometry design and load calculations for individual components of system based on smaller quadrants and two speed pedestal drive. Design for carbon quadrants to suit Frers rudders including windward weather rudder release system. Quadrant/steering cross bar in carbon or aluminum with specification of standard stainless rod link end fittings. Design of steering toe in adjustment system and specification of parts adjoining quadrant. Engineering and construction drawings of carbon pedestals and consoles, custom steering heads to suit client’s choice of wheels, incorporating two speed pedestal gearing 3D concept drawings using geometry of units chosen by client. Custom performance steering system with weather rudder float system and toe in/out control system with two fixed positions. Custom composite quadrants and pedestals instead of standard. Toe in/out and weather rudder float functions are controlled by push buttons from both steering pedestals.
